HDCP- High Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection
HDCP is a form of digital copy protection which was developed to protect digital audio and video content as it travels across digital connections. DISH Network and all other cable and satellite providers have been required to activate HDCP on your receiver. With these new requirements, your HD TV and your digital video connection to your TV must be HDCP-capable in order to view some pay-per-view and video on demand content through a digital connection.
To verify you have HDCP-capable equipment, press the Menu button on your remote, then select " System Setup," " Installation," " System Info," " Next." If " HDCP" displays "Yes," you will not be affected by HDCP. If it displays "No," either your TV or your digital video connection is not HDCP-capable. In this case, you may not be able to watch Pay-Per-View, Video On Demand, and DishONLINE movies.
HDCP affects only a small number of customers. You may be affected by HDCP if you have an HDTV from 2005 or before AND if you have a digital connection. You have a digital connection if you have n digital cable running from your TV to your receiver. HDMI and DVI are digital cables.
